Reddit uses subreddits, it’s a little different. Many media projects use news categories to make it easier for readers to find articles on narrow topics. In general, this is a fairly common practice. Our problem was that initially having only one common feed, our audience associated the MDK app only with memes and any other content was rejected by users. By entering content categories, we “legalized” other areas of content. This is a story about how introducing one new feature, we were able to expand the scope of the application.
Now users began to perceive posts of a different type of content quite friendly. In addition, in each category of content we introduced special badges for top authors, which are displayed in comments and posts next to the user name. It also attracted new authors to make posts in new categories (not just memes), in which the competition is much less.
